Darling,<\/p>\n

Am going back to the tap house this morning & am in great dither to get a letter once more.\u00a0 It\u2019s an isolated sort of life the folks live up here \u2013 each day rapidly becomes the same as another when one stays at the camp for any time.\u00a0 Yesterday I\u2019d just about had enough \u2013 I couldn\u2019t draw \u2013 I was damned hot \u2013 I was full of ants \u2013 I wished I was home.<\/p>\n

This morning it\u2019s a bit cooler.\u00a0 Naturally I\u2019m somewhat stronger.<\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t written to the boys at the office yet but I suppose you give them some information at times.<\/p>\n

Have found out some more details about Paul1<\/a><\/sup>Maj. W.M. Paul? commander of 1st Reserve Motor Transport Company. An Auxilarry was formed to work for the uniot of which Mrs W. Dalziel was Hon. Secretary. Dalziels were related to Jess’s mother’s side.<\/span> which I can tell you when I return.<\/p>\n

A pleasant little item you can tell the lads. A notice on the routine orders board \u2013<\/p>\n

“Advice has been received from the A.P.M. N.T. Forces that an aboriginal \u2013 Mary \u2013 has been apprehended in the [censored] area.\u00a0 On being examined by the Medical Authorities she was found to be suffering from leprosy (advanced).\u00a0 Any person having had contact with any native in the\u00a0[censored] area is to report to the Squadron medical Officer immediately.”<\/em><\/p>\n

There is much uninspired letter writing done from here as after the first month all novelty is gone for the pilots.\u00a0 For 3 or 4 months their routine is exactly the same every day.\u00a0 Up early \u2013 arrive at dispersal hut \u2013 then lounge in deck chairs all day waiting for a raid which seldom arrives.\u00a0 Must be colossally boring.\u00a0 Their reactions come occasionally when they get roaring drunk.\u00a0 Leave every 3 or 4 months which is much more than anyone else gets.\u00a0 But these lads need it alright.<\/p>\n

Be nice if I could work in some comfort.\u00a0 Disabilities & heat have just about buggered me this week.\u00a0 And yet I don\u2019t care for Darwin \u2013 it\u2019s too far from any of the material I want & there\u2019s also the bloody typewriters.<\/p>\n

The steward at the bar here is an amazing replica of Ron Bennett (emaciated) complete as to hair, eyes, nose, mouth, chin, etc.\u00a0 Face a trifle narrower.\u00a0 Ron\u2019s old man must have been around.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t need eye-drop prescription.\u00a0 A drop a day doesn\u2019t take any away.<\/p>\n

An officer just came in with an official message.\u00a0 Speaking of inter area personal communications over telegraph line.\u00a0 Requested to cease.\u00a0 Instances communication between air signals man & WAAF Signals women. \u201c———-\u201c We could do with some WAAFs up here.\u201d\u00a0 Official comment is \u2013 This sort of thing must cease \u2013 if message such as this fell into enemy hands they would naturally surmise that a shortage of manpower existed in this area.<\/p>\n
