Forces<br \/>\nMoresby<\/p>\n<p>6<sup>th<\/sup> Feb Mon 10 am<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">[7 Feb 1944]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Darling,<\/p>\n<p>Am back in Moresby and will soon (in a couple of days) be on my way back to the mainland where I am afraid I shall have to put in a week or so on the Tablelands.\u00a0 In any case it is certain that I shall be home within three weeks \u2013 maybe two.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/wepidgeon\/8887563665\/in\/set-72157633803100515\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3347\" src=\"http:\/\/wepidgeon.com\/pidgeonpost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/14.jpg\" alt=\"14\" width=\"651\" height=\"478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wepidgeon.com\/pidgeonpost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/14.jpg 651w, https:\/\/wepidgeon.com\/pidgeonpost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/14-300x220.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wepidgeon.com\/pidgeonpost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/14-408x300.jpg 408w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 651px) 100vw, 651px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tommy [O&#8217;Dea] called into this unit on Sunday afternoon after five minutes after I had arrived back from the local air strip.\u00a0 Had only a few words with him but may go round to his living quarters tonight.\u00a0 Previously I couldn\u2019t locate him as he is stationed away from the Navy proper.\u00a0 He drove off in a jeep.\u00a0 Christ, he looked funny!\u00a0 Quite a bleaming blade.\u00a0 Just as well he didn\u2019t have a nurse or Amwas or something with him because on such occasions travel is accompanied by screams, cat calls and yahoos by all and sundry.<\/p>\n<p>He looks well enough &amp; quite happy.\u00a0 Said he flew up from Brisbane with only the slightest of brain flappings.<\/p>\n<p>Bill Marien ex-Telegraph man (you will remember him up at the Castlereagh \u2013 big dark fattish chap with a girl wif lovely teef from Rockdale way) has gone back to mainland.\u00a0 I shall have a few drinks with him at the Officers Club where I last wrote you from.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t write me any more letters here \u2013 or anywhere for that matter as I probably won\u2019t get them.\u00a0 I received one from you while staying in the Ramu Valley.\u00a0 Sorry to hear you are so lonely\u00a0 &#8211; it won\u2019t be so long now darling,<\/p>\n<p>Hawkeye Hawkesley is the big noise around here.\u00a0 The life &amp; soul of the party so to speak.\u00a0 Must get Tommy to take me down to the American Officer\u2019s club as I would like to get myself some few things.\u00a0 Everybody at St Percy\u2019s (as this school for boys is fondly known) has managed to get something or other.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday saw a great organised picnic in the hills at a joint called Rouna Falls.\u00a0 Really very pleasant &amp; falls quite impressive.\u00a0 The celibates managed to collect 5 nurses to take along.\u00a0 No Helens of Troy amongst them.\u00a0 5 nurses to 12 men is a super abundance of feminity in these perfumeless parts.<\/p>\n<p>Haven\u2019t contracted as far as I know any scrofs, plagues or poxes.\u00a0 Have lost my pot belly and most of the other superfluous fats.\u00a0 Found it necessary to drag the belt in 4 holes.\u00a0 Sweated quite a bit in my time up here.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3696\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3696\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/wepidgeon\/8888539204\/in\/set-72157633803445161\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3696 \" src=\"http:\/\/wepidgeon.com\/pidgeonpost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/2-New-Guinea-10-Port-Moresby-Area-2.jpg\" alt=\"W.E.
